How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?
What creators really earn per 1,000 views from YouTube ads, by niche and audience, what 1 million views pays, how many views $10,000 a month takes, Shorts, and what 500 subscribers unlock.

The short answer: most creators earn about $1 to $12 from ads for every 1,000 views of a long video, and a few cents for 1,000 Shorts views. An education channel with a mostly US audience earns about $4.50 per 1,000 views. That is less than half a cent per view. The topic of the channel and the country of the viewers change the number more than anything else.
What is the RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) on YouTube?
RPM is the money a creator receives for every 1,000 views. YouTube defines it as “how much money you’ve earned per 1,000 video views.” Two details make it smaller than people expect:
- RPM is counted after YouTube’s share. For ads on long videos, YouTube pays the creator 55% of the net ad revenue and keeps the rest.
- RPM includes all views, also the ones where no ad was shown.
CPM is a different number. It is what advertisers pay for 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube’s share. So a channel’s RPM is always lower than its CPM. The CPM calculator works with the advertiser’s side of the same money.

How much money for 1 million views on YouTube?
It depends on the niche. With a mostly US audience, 1 million views pays about $4,500 on an education channel, $12,000 on a finance channel and $2,000 on a gaming channel. The same million views on Shorts pays about $60.

Estimates for a mostly US audience. Each number is what the YouTube money calculator returns for that niche and view count. Your real RPM is in YouTube Studio under Analytics → Revenue.
These are estimates, not rates that YouTube publishes. YouTube does not share RPM by niche. The figures are conservative mid-range numbers from public creator reports, such as the ranges collected by Influencer Marketing Hub. Two channels in the same niche can easily differ by three times.
Which YouTube niche has the highest RPM?
Finance and investing, then business and marketing, then tech. Advertisers pay the most to reach people who are about to spend or invest money: a viewer who watches a video about credit cards may open one next week. Gaming, entertainment and music pay the least. Many viewers are young, and music is often claimed by its rights holders, who then receive the ad money from the video.
How many YouTube views do I need to make $10,000 per month?
About 2.2 million views a month on an education channel with a US audience. A finance channel needs fewer views and a gaming channel needs more. For $2,000 a month, an education channel needs about 444,000 views.
Views a month needed for an income goal

Ad revenue only, mostly US audience. Views needed = monthly goal ÷ RPM × 1,000.
To find the number for your own channel, take your RPM from YouTube Studio and use this formula:
views needed = monthly goal ÷ RPM × 1,000
The YouTube money calculator does this for you and shows the views needed for $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 and $50,000 a month.
How much do YouTubers make per view in the US, UK and India?
Advertisers pay much more to reach viewers in rich countries. The numbers above are for a channel whose viewers are mostly in the US. The same 1 million views earns less when the audience lives elsewhere:
1 million education views by audience

Rough multipliers of the US figure: × 0.75, × 0.5 and × 0.25.
YouTube does not publish RPM by country, so these multipliers are rough averages. Channels with viewers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia generally earn more than channels whose audience lives where advertisers spend less. A channel with viewers mostly in India, Southeast Asia, Latin America or Africa earns about a quarter of the US figure for the same views. Your own RPM in YouTube Studio already includes the mix of your viewers.
How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views on Shorts?
Very little: about $0.06 per 1,000 views in our estimate. Shorts are paid in a different way. Ads are shown between videos in the Shorts Feed, not inside them. YouTube adds up this ad money each month, puts part of it in a Creator Pool and splits the pool by each creator’s share of engaged views. Shorts that use music send part of their share to the music partners. The creator keeps 45% of the amount given to them. Shorts help a channel grow, but 1 million Shorts views pays about the same as 13,000 views of a long education video.
Can 500 subscribers make money?
Yes, but not from ads. With 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days and 3,000 watch hours in the last 12 months (or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days), a channel can join the YouTube Partner Program for fan funding and Shopping. That means channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks and selling products.
A share of ad revenue needs more: 1,000 subscribers with 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers with 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
How much does a 100K subscriber YouTuber make?
Subscribers do not earn money by themselves. YouTube pays for views, not for subscribers. A channel with 100,000 subscribers might get 300,000 views a month or 3 million, depending on how often it posts and how many subscribers still watch. With 300,000 views a month on an education channel with a US audience, ad revenue is about $1,350 a month. Sponsors, memberships and affiliate links come on top of this.
